Grinding (Cylindrical/O.D.) Set-Up Operator

Job Description

HORST ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING CO is currently looking for a Grinding (Cylindrical/O.D.) Set-Up Operator to join our team. As a Grinding Set-Up Operator/Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC cylindrical (O.D) grinders to produce high precision parts made from various materials. Your role will involve ensuring that all manufactured parts meet quality standards and customer specifications.

Major Areas of Responsibility

• Set up and operate CNC cylindrical grinders such as Kellenberger, Studer, Jones & Shipman, Hauser, Clausing, etc.
• Read blueprints, operation sheets, travelers, or other specifications to set up and complete machining operations for high precision parts.
• Perform complex setups including fixturing, wheel selection, dressing, and create/edit CNC programs as needed.
• Assist other Operators with setup or production issues and ensure compliance with quality standards.
• Conduct dimensional and visual inspections of close tolerance parts using measuring instruments and gages.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance and other related machining and assembly operations as required.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent. Technical school training is a plus.
• Five plus years of diverse experience in a machine shop or CNC machining environment.
• Ability to set up CNC cylindrical grinders like Kellenberger, Studer, etc.
• Experience with centerless grinding, pinch-peel grinding, and manual cylindrical grinders is advantageous.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding operation sheets, blueprints, and specifications.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to push/pull/carry up to 50 lbs.
• Able to stand for up to 8+ hours.
